Wicklow, Leaving Ireland, Cornwall
HEYYYYYY. I suck at updating. Whenever we'd get back from whatever we were doing, I'd be too tired to actually write anything. So here we go. I'll try to remember everything.
Our third day in Ireland was the best of the four aside from a creepy incident in the taxi. We got a taxi from our flat to the place where we were supposed to get the bus for our tour and on the way there, there was a guy in the taxi next to us, staring at me and pretending to shoot us with a gun. It was kind of awful. No wonder we didn't feel safe in Dublin. Anyway, we went on a tour through Wicklow National Park where we stopped in Glendalough and then at Powerscourt Estate and Gardens. Once you get out of Dublin, Ireland is really lovely. Our bus driver was really nice and was giving us a broad tour of Dublin on our way out as well as giving us the history of different things we passed along the way. Unfortunately, I cannot dazzle you with amazing historical facts because I was half asleep most of the time and since it was almost a week ago, I can't really remember anything anyway. I do remember that we drove past Colin Farrell's hometown of Irishtown a couple miles outside of Dublin and that there are no snakes, lizards, or moles on the island of Ireland. In Glendalough (which means "The Valley of Two Lakes"), we visited a monastery built in I wanna say the 7th century... I could be way off though. We walked up and around the first lake, the other lake being another 6 mile hike and we didn't have time for that. We wandered and took a lot of the pictures of the beautiful scenery. We saw a deer, which Alice was super excited about. I see so many at home that it wasn't all that fascinating for me.
Powerscourt Gardens were also very exciting. We stopped, ate lunch (as quickly as possible because there were birds and they were getting closer to me and I was going to have a meltdown), and then went walking around the gardens. We wandered the gardens and took millions of pictures. It was a great time. We wandered through the shops and by the end, we were ready to get back on the bus and head back to the city.
Once we got back, we wandered through the shops full of tourists. We walked across Ha'penny Bridge (which I had read about in a book by Cecelia Ahern, it really is not as impressive in person) and then caught a taxi back to the flat because Alice was too nervous with the large amount of people in this area. We ended up grabbing pizzas from a Spar down the street (where the guy ringing us up asked if we were sisters. I don't see it.) and went back to the flat to drink our final Desperados and have a quiet night in.
The next morning, I got up early and video chatted (is that how you would say that??? I don't know) with four of my good friends back home. It was early for me, late for them, and just a tad bit awkward (all video chats are a bit awkward, right?) but it was really nice to see and talk to them because I miss them dearly. After about an hour call with them, Alice and I both went back to sleep and finally left the flat around 12 or 1 to go do something with our final day in Ireland. We went to the National Gallery of Ireland, where we saw Monet, Picasso, and The Taking of Christ by Caravaggio. I couldn't take pictures in there and the guards looked super mean. Then we walked to Trinity College where we went to a Zoological Museum and had a student show us around and teach us a lot of stuff about what we were looking at. After that, I was ridiculously hungry and we made our way to Nando's. After Nando's we headed back to the flat, watched a movie, got our stuff all packed up, and got settled in for an early night. On the way to the flat, we wandered around trying to find the Oscar Wilde statue and we wanted through a couple parks. As we were walking through one, I had moved so I wasn't walking next to the birds. Seconds after I had moved, Alice was pooped on by a seagull. I could not contain my laughter. There was no holding it in. I completely lost it. We got back to the flat and she showered immediately. We woke up the next morning, cleaned up, and caught a taxi to the airport.
Once we arrived in Newquay, Alice's sister was there to pick us up. We drove past a very nice beach so I could take a picture, and then we were on our way to Saltash. We stopped by Waitrose, got food for a barbecue, and then headed to Alice's house. We had burgers and had an early night. Our travel time was short, but it was still tiring. The next day we did nothing. Absolutely nothing. Wednesday, Alice and I went to Tintagel Castle. It was a really nice walk and there were so gorgeous views. After Tintagel, we went to visit Alice's Aunt and Uncle and see their new horse, Lily. Yesterday, I went with Alice to walk the dogs she walks and then came back to be lazy until we went to Nando's with a couple of her friends for dinner.
Today I have done nothing really but sort my pack out a bit, read, and watch half of a movie. Tonight we are going to see Paolo Nutini (hopefully the weather is wrong and it doesn't rain like it says it's going to) which should be fun. Tomorrow I will move to my hotel in Plymouth, where I will spend my final days in the south of England, just doing the things I used to do when I lived here. Shopping, eating Nando's, reading up on The Hoe. It's crazy that a week from Tuesday, I will be home. As great as this trip has been, I think I am almost ready to go home. It's been exciting and excellent, but extremely tiring. Alright. I'm going to try to be social :)
I hope everyone is doing well!
