Paolo Nutini, Plymouth, London, and Coming Home
Welp. It's been about three weeks since I got home. Oops. I want to apologise in advance for the typos that are going to be in this and the terrible writing. I am trying to write about a week and a half's worth of events as quickly as possible so I can either play sims or help my dad move stuff. Sooooooo where did I leave off? I think I was about to start getting ready to go to Paolo Nutini. Which was exactly a month ago. Yikes.
Paolo was awesome. The concert was at this really cool place called the Eden Project, which has three GIANT bubble, biome things that light up and change colors at night. Alice's sister made pasties and we took two each - we ate one in the car before we went into the show and ate one on the way home. Pasties are awesome, by the way. It's like beef stew in a pouch. Really delicious. It did rain a bit, but I had my Guinness hat on, so I didn't get as wet as I could have. There were two opening acts and the beer lines were super long. But over all, it was great. I have now become so obsessed with him that I listen to him more than anyone else.
The next day, which I think was Saturday, I went to stay at a hotel in Plymouth. This was like the first time I'd actually been in Plymouth just to wander since I left last year. It hit me pretty hard that the only things I really missed about it were my friends, my room, The Hoe, Drake Circus, and Nando's. The rest of the city is kinda shitty, not going to lie. I completely forgot how dirty and just run-down it all looks. There seemed to be like 3 times the number of pigeons and seagulls in one of the squares I used to walk through on a daily basis, so that sucked. It made me really sad when I walked by Astor, though. My phone still connected to the wifi. I could tell that someone was staying in my room and that was a serious bummer. I miss living in 87.3. On Sunday, I wandered around Plymouth for a bit, went back to the hotel, took a nap, and then attempted to take the bus back to Cornwall to have a roast dinner at Alice's house and go to a pub quiz with her and her friends. The bus was a nightmare. The bus driver was very rude and unhelpful and I ended up getting off super early and just having Alice come and pick me up. We had a nice roast with her lovely family and then headed to the pub for the pub quiz. I was able to help a bit with my American knowledge and I was asked a bunch of questions about American things and TONS of questions about Mormons by Alice's friends. After the quiz, Alice took me back to the hotel. The next day, Alice picked me up and we went to Wembury Beach for a bit and then just drove around trying to find some interesting places. When we got back to Plymouth, we had tea at The Strand Tea Room and said our goodbyes. It was really hard saying goodbye to Alice. I'd been with here for like 16 days straight. Tuesday, I got up, packed up my stuff, left the hotel, walked through Drake Circus to get some Krispy Kremes, and headed up to the train station. I forgot how difficult that walk is when you have a bunch of shit to carry.
I got on the train and ended up sitting squished at a table with three guys who finished a very large bottle of Jack Daniels before we even got to London. They were nice enough, though. One of them, I believe his name was Matt, said "If you can't handle the banter, get off the banter bus," and that made my day. I got to London, went to my hotel, had a horrific experience which I am not going to go into detail about here, and then ended up switching to a ridiculously expensive hotel down the street.
The next day, Tom came to stay with me! It was great. I have missed him so much. His accent is my favorite. Everything he says is funny. We found pizza for £6 which is AWESOME in Central London. We wandered, shopped, went to Tate Modern and looked at art. We had dinner at a place called Wahaca where we had excellent Mexican food, and then we found our way back to to the hotel where I made him watch Easy A. The next day, we wandered around Oxford Circus and Regent Street before heading to Kings Cross St. Pancras where we said goodbye. We didn't get to see each other for long, but it was great that I got to see him at all. After we said our goodbyes, I headed back to the hotel where I planted myself in the expensive bed and watched movies the rest of the night. I was making the most of that room. Plus, London isn't as fun when you're alone and I was freaking exhausted.
The next morning, I got up, packed my things, and hopped on the Tube to Victoria. (I miss the Tube. I love it. It smells great. It's super efficient. And I just feel so... I don't know how to explain it. But the fact that I can use it so easily makes me feel great.) I waited for about an hour and then Lucy arrived! I almost cried. It had been way too long since we'd seen each other. We grabbed a coffee and jumped right back on the train to head to her house. I got to drop off my stuff and then we went shopping. I needed to go to Primark and she needed to go to Pandora. I bought way too many sunglasses and a ring that I really didn't need (but it looks excellent on my finger). We went to ASDA, picked up my favorite pizzas and I bought an embarrassing amount of buttons, caramel nibbles, and different Nando's things (all of this required me to buy another suitcase. I cannot control myself). We were going to go to a movie, but instead, we bought a couple movies and headed back to her house to relax before we went to dinner. We had dinner at The Grange where I had Indian food that I actually liked. Butter Chicken is now a new favorite of mine. After dinner we went back and watch another movie.
The next day, we went to explore London. Lucy doesn't go there very often and I've seen more of the city than she has. We went to Harrods first, had lunch at the Hard Rock Cafe, which is the first ever Hard Rock, and finally headed to London Bridge to start the Harry Potter walking tour that Lucy had surprised me with. It was awesome. Our tour guide was called Scott and he looked a sounded like Daniel Radcliffe (he wasn't, but they are definitely similar) and he was really funny and entertaining. We got to see a whole bunch of places where they filmed. We walked near Downing Street, which is where the Prime Minister lives, where they were having a large protest. Roads were closed and everything. That night, Lucy's friend came over to hang out with us and we ate our ASDA pizza while I forced them to watch The Wedding Singer.
The next day was Father's day and also the day Lucy's family came home from their holiday. We walked to Sainsbury's (which is not as close as Lucy likes to think that it is) and then over to The Grange to pick up food. We had a lazy day and it was great. My final day in the UK was spend in Brighton. It was super rainy. Like. Awful. We spent most of our time running from store to store. I bought another suitcase because there was no way to fit everything in my pack and one suitcase. We had lunch at The Harvester and walked up and down the pier, trying to stay out of the rain. When we decided to leave, the weather cleared up, but we already had our minds set on leaving and I needed to go get packed. I don't remember what we did when we got back, all I know is that I packed my stuff and went to bed pretty early since they were taking me to the bus stop at 7 the next morning.
I said my sad goodbyes and hopped on a double decker, which I rode for about two hours. But I only had to pay £1.50 all the way to the tube right before the airport. I got on the tube for the last time to get to my terminal and headed into Heathrow. The lady was awesome and didn't make me pay for my extra bag since both of them together didn't equal the weight limit of one. I got searched, of course, and then went to wander around. The flight was great. There was hardly anyone on it and I got to sit by myself. Virgin Atlantic is great but Delta has much better movie and TV selections. The layover was a terrible 4-hour one, and the last flight was hard since there were tons of kids and I had already been traveling for a very long time. I was welcomed home by my good friends Elsee, Chade, Andrew, and McKay which was awesome. I came home, showered, and slept.
And I've been working ever since. It feels like I've been home forever. I don't even remember what I've been doing since I got home besides working. We had a BBQ on the 3rd before fireworks and a BBQ at my house on the 4th with my good friends and a friend from work. I tried to drive the Porsche. I snuggle cats a lot. And that's really all I can think of. I went to two weddings this weekend. One was at the aquarium, so that was cool. And now here we are.
Well. There you have it. Now I'm going to go upload all the pictures for this post and play some Sims. Because what else do you do on a Monday night when you don't have homework to pretend to do?
Thanks for reading. You're all mighty swell.
